The WINNERS of John E's IDOL CONTEST: ROUND 3

Round 3 of John E's Idol competition, held Friday, April 11th and April 18th, brought more new and talented faces to John E's stage, including our 2 YOUNGEST WINNERS! Nine year old, KIMBERLY MALONEY belted out a rousing version of "So Small", and first grader, LILLY GULLETT performed a sweet and charming version of "In My Own Little Space". The two young ladies tied for third place. Earning second place was JACKIE CARRICO, doing a dramatic, cabaret style performance of "Maybe This Time". And JAMES JOHNSON, his show name, Mr. J., took the $300 first place prize with an exciting rendition of "YouÕll Never Find". Handling the judging was actor/singer GEOFFREY HOBIN; nationally known journalist, book author and music critic, ALANNA NASH; and with us for the first time, actor, director and former Director of the Actors Apprentice Company, JENNIFER HUBBARD. Our sincere thanks to our wonderful judges who volunteered their time and talents to make the contest fun and entertaining.

1st Place: James Johnson (Mr. J.), 2nd Place: Jackie Carrico
3rd Place: a tie, between Lilly Gullett and Kimberly Maloney

The WINNERS of John E's IDOL CONTEST: ROUND 2

It's clear that word of the John E's Idol competition is spreading around town. We had another very talented and enthusiastic group of contestants to compete in Round 2, which was held on Friday, January 25th and February 1st. From a field of eleven, six semi-finalists were chosen and from those our four finalists earned the right to compete in the grand finals this summer. Adding to the incredible excitement that this contest has generated, we were fortunate to have four very distinguished judges helping out. Returning from Round 1 was physical comedienne, actress, singer and musician DIANE WASNAK, recently seen in "A Tuna Christmas" at ATL and on her way to Broadway this fall to perform in "Busker Alley". Also judging was actor/singer GEOFFREY HOBIN. Formerly with Stage One Children's Theatre, today Geoffrey performs standards from the great American songbook with his piano-playing partner, Sam Hodges. Joining us for Round 2 was JOHN POLK. A former WHAS Radio 84 air personality, John is one of the region's top voice talents and a widely known book narrator with the American Printing House for the Blind. Also joining us was nationally known journalist, book author and music critic, ALANNA NASH, author of "The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story Of Colonel Tom Parker And Elvis Presley", "Dolly: The Biography", hundreds of articles about music for such publications as People, USA Weekend, TV Guide, Playboy and many more. Watch for news of Round 3 coming this spring and then in Summer 2008, the Grand Finals of the John E's Idol Competition!

1st Place: Angie Glotzbach, 2nd Place: Ron Marks
3rd Place: Pam Sanders, 4th Place: Barry Sawayer

The WINNERS of John E's IDOL CONTEST: ROUND 1

Congratulations to everyone who participated in Round One of John E's Restaurant's IDOL CONTEST. All the competition was great -- there were musical styles across the board -- country, rock, blues, standards, even several a cappella performances. 15 contestants competed on the first Friday, 8 finalists were chosen to return the second Friday, and 4 winners were chosen. Vocalists were judged on singing ability, presentation, ability to "move" the audience and manner, appearance and style, and each category had equal weight. Our judges, Diane Wasnak, Geoffrey Hobin and Bob Salyers had a tough assignment narrowing down the winners. All four finalists could have easily taken first place!

1st Place: Jonathon Rideout, 2nd Place: Katie McDaniel
3rd Place: Wayne Fulton, 4th Place: Hannah Mae Rector
